Kempower leads OEMs by approving Formula Space’s first-of-its-kind forensic anti-theft solution for EV charging cables

  • Kempower has become the first EV charging manufacturer to approve third-party Formula Space’s anti-theft product for cables after rigorous testing
  • The solution is the first on the market to use DNA traceability as an added deterrent to thieves
  • Kempower has confirmed through rigorous testing that the solution is compatible with Kempower Satellites, Kempower Station Chargers, and Kempower Movable Chargers with the cable types CCSS2, up to 300A and 5-meter length, and CHAdeMO, up to 5-meter length

LAHTI, FINLAND – 7 AUGUST 2025 The Finnish DC fast-charging company Kempower has become the first original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for EV charging to approve a first-of-its-kind anti-theft solution developed by charging consultancy Formula Space. CableGuard™ has been developed by Formula Space to tackle a rise in EV charging cable theft, which doubled in number last year compared to 2023.

Charging cables have become a recent target for organized theft due to their copper content, which has a considerable resale value as scrap metal. With repairs and replacements proving costly for charging operators and OEMs, CableGuard™ was born out of the industry’s need for an effective solution to the ongoing issue.

There are more than 8000 charging stations globally with Kempower’s fast charging infrastructure, so the company took the lead in vigorously testing the CableGuard™ solution with a view to rolling it out to customers in order to protect their stock.

The testing phase was completed over an expedited eight-week period and the solution is now fully approved by Kempower for the UK, Ireland and continental European markets.

Similar anti-theft products on the market are commonly made of either metal or synthetic braiding and have, so far, made it more difficult and time-consuming to cut charging cables during an attempted theft.

CableGuard™ goes a step further, using a high-tech cut resistant sleeve which doesn’t require the same steel reinforcement used in similar products and minimises the impact on user experience and the charger itself. In addition, the product is particularly unique because of its forensic traceability capabilities – something that is completely new to the industry.

If a cable protected by CableGuard™ is tampered with, a uniquely identifiable fluid is released at high pressure, making contact with the perpetrator and their nearby belongings. The fluid is transparent to the naked eye, but its own signature DNA code exclusive to the charging location becomes visible under UV light, with information available to the police via a shared database. This forensic element ensures that perpetrators can be linked back to offences at specific charge points, aiding with convictions and acting as a strong deterrent.

Lee Barnett, Solutions & Service Manager, UK & Ireland at Kempower, commented: “A key element to driving forward the EV transition is instilling in people a feeling of trust and confidence in available charging infrastructure. Rising crime involving charging cables is damaging both to EV charging businesses and to public perceptions and experience. We chose to lead the way and become Formula Space’s testing partner for CableGuard™ so we could offer our customers and partners a solution we truly believe in and to uphold our overall mission of supporting the transition to clean transportation.”

Vern Pollard, Director of Formula Space, said: “The testing of CableGuard™ was a crucial stage of the development process for us because we wanted to be sure that it was compatible with a wide variety of charging infrastructure. We needed a testing partner with significant experience and expertise with physical charging infrastructure, which is why we trusted Kempower to fulfil this need. We’re proud to say that, after extensive trialling and research, CableGuard™ has had Kempower’s seal of approval and will provide an extra layer of security to its customers.”

Formula Space CableGuard™ is approved to be applied by Kempower Certified Service Partners following Kempower’s CableGuard™ Application Guidance. CableGuard™ is available by contacting Formula Space https://formula-space.com/contact/.

Kempower delivers its DC fast-charging solutions to one of the largest EV charging hubs in Malaysia, operated by DC Handal

Johor, Malaysia – Leading DC fast-charging solutions provider, Kempower, is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia. The company has already deliv-ered multiple public charging systems to DC Handal in Malaysia. At the end of March 2025, one of the largest charging hubs operated by DC Handal will open at the Mall of Medini in Johor, Malaysia. This charging hub will cater to both passenger and commercial EVs including buses and trucks.

The total charging capacity of the Mall of Medini EV charging hub is 1.2MW with 28 single-output Kempower Satellites. Each satellite can deliver up to 240kW of power. The Kempower Satellite charging system, comprising of Kempower Power Units and Kempower Satellites, will automatically and dy-namically distribute power to each charge point. This enables the site’s power supply to be used optimally.

“Handal Green Mobility proudly launches Malaysia’s first commercial EV Hub, featuring 28 DC fast-charging nozzles powered by the grid, solar, and bat-tery energy storage. Designed to serve both public and fleet vehicles, this hub marks a major step toward a greener, more accessible EV future,” says Esa Fawsal Salleh, Chief Technology Officer from DC Handal.

The charging hub is powered by the grid and a rooftop solar PV system with a capacity of 370kW. The average solar energy daily production is expected to be 1.1 to 1.2 MWh, which is equivalent to charging 20 passenger EVs.

In the next phase, a Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) will be added for peak shaving and renewable energy storage applications. This means when the EV charging power demand exceeds the total available power from the grid and solar PV, the BESS will discharge to cater to the excess charging demand. The other way around, when there is excess solar energy produc-tion during periods of low charging demand, the BESS will be charged up

“We are honored to be given this opportunity to work with DC Handal on this project. The site serves as a blueprint for sustainable EV charging hubs in SE Asia. As more vehicles including heavy duty ones start to electrify, charging hubs must evolve to cater to a variety of charging requirements. Solar PV and BESS will also become an integral part of fast charging hubs as grid up-grades take a much longer time to implement. The zero-emission aspect is an added bonus,” said Carlo Cecchi, Director, New Markets, Kempower.

Kempower and GodEnergi support the electrification of Danske Fragtmænd’s lorry fleet with the first of 27 fast charging stations

Finnish manufacturer of DC fast charging systems Kempower has supplied Danske Fragtmænd with the infrastructure for its first charging station for electric lorries. The system, which is located at Danske Fragtmænd’s depot in Aalborg, Denmark, currently enables up to four lorries to be charged simultaneously and was designed and developed by Kempower’s partner GodEnergi A/S.

The site has a Kempower satellite charging system with four Kempower satellites, each of which can deliver up to 400 kW of ultra-fast charging. This equates to a range of around 360 km per charging hour. Kempower’s charging infrastructure uses dynamic power sharing, meaning that each connected vehicle receives the maximum available power according to its charging needs, rather than a simple even split. This optimises charging times and ensures that Danske Fragtmænd’s trucks are back up and running as quickly as possible, minimising downtime.

Kempower’s charging solutions are also modular and scalable, so that capacity can be increased in the future simply by adding an additional power unit and satellites. This will help Danske Fragtmænd to increase its charging capacity in line with the growth of its electric fleet, with preparations already underway to double the number of satellites.

The charging station in Aalborg is the first of several stations planned in collaboration with energy supplier OK and with infrastructure supplied by Kempower to support Danske Fragtmænd’s transition to a more sustainable logistics company. Charging stations will soon follow in Sakskøbing, Taastrup, Odense and Aarhus. Danske Fragtmænd’s goal is for the entire network to be

As one of Denmark’s largest road transport players, Danske Fragtmænd plays a central role in developing the transport industry towards a more sustainable future. One of the biggest obstacles to the transition to electric heavy goods transport is the lack of an efficient and easily accessible charging infrastructure capable of charging electric trucks quickly enough to maintain normal operations. With the establishment of the charging station in Aalborg, Danske Fragtmænd is taking an important first step in driving forward the electrification of lorries in Denmark.

At the inauguration of the charging station on Thursday 20 March, Danish Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen symbolically put the first electric truck into operation and cut the red ribbon.

‘Heavy goods transport must be part of the green transition, and this requires a strong charging infrastructure. Initiatives like this show the way forward and make it easier for hauliers to choose electricity,’ said Thomas Danielsen, Denmark’s Minister of Transport.

‘The electrification of HGV transport remains an ongoing challenge, but with the right charging technology and logistics companies committed to positive change, we are confident that electric HGV transport is the future. We are now in a position to provide a charging infrastructure with a higher capacity than before, making the transition inevitable, feasible and increasingly profitable for trucking companies. Together with GodEnergi, we look forward to supporting logistics companies like Danske Fragtmænd in the transition of their fleets,’ says Erik Kanerva, Sales Director, Northern Europe, at Kempower.

‘The electrification of trucking remains an ongoing challenge, but with the right charging technology and logistics companies committed to positive change, we are confident that e-trucking is the future.

‘We have been ensuring efficient freight transport in Denmark for over 100 years, and now we are taking a big step towards a greener future. Our goal is that all of our 27 terminals will eventually be equipped with a charging station. We are starting here in Aalborg, but more will follow soon. For us, it’s about making it easier for our fleet operators to switch to electric trucks by ensuring a strong charging infrastructure,’ says Bjarne Krogh Jensen, CEO of Danske Fragtmænd.

‘We are proud to be working with Danske Fragtmænd to create a solid charging infrastructure for electric trucks. The green transition in the transport sector requires investment and partnerships, and we look forward to continuing to develop solutions that make it easier for the transport industry to choose electricity as a fuel,’ says Anders Skandbo Espersen, OK’s Sales Manager for e-mobility in heavy transport.

The charging stations will not only contribute to reducing Danske Fragtmænd’s CO2 emissions, but also support a broader transition to more climate-friendly transport solutions in Denmark.

Fact Box: E-Trucks

  • E-Trucks use energy much better than other types of lorries. They simply consume much less energy per kilometre driven and are therefore cheaper to operate.
  • Of the green solutions and alternative fuels, electricity is clearly the most efficient, accounting for 77 per cent of energy, while hydrogen only accounts for 33 per cent.
  • An electric truck – from cradle to cradle, with a service life of 10 years and 1.2 million kilometres behind it, has a CO2 reduction of 82 percent.
  • Battery technology is developing extremely quickly – the latest electric lorries can travel up to 500 – 600 km on a single charge. A new battery technology has the potential to revolutionise the market for electric vehicles – the so-called solid-state battery. The battery can travel even further with a shorter charging time. It gives the battery up to 10 times the energy density of conventional batteries. The increased energy density means that electric lorries equipped with this type of battery can have a range of up to 1,000 km on a single charge. The battery can be charged from 5 to 60 per cent in just five minutes, which corresponds to a range of around 300 km. After a further three minutes, the battery can be charged to 80 per cent.
  • Mega-charging stations with 1 MW will soon be a reality. In Europe and the USA, massive investments are being made in ‘megawatt charging’, with which trucks can be charged from 20 per cent to 80 per cent in 22 minutes.
  • E-Trucks are not only better for reducing CO2 – they also do not emit harmful NOX gases. This is a major challenge, especially in cities. They are also up to 40 per cent quieter than diesel trucks, making them ideal for urban areas and night-time deliveries.

Port Authority and Revel Open New Electric Vehicle Charging Station at John F. Kennedy International Airport, More Than Doubling Airport’s Electric Vehicle Fast Charging Capacity

46 Total Fast Electric Vehicle Chargers Now Available at JFK, Including 24 New Chargers Installed by Revel at the For-Hire Vehicle Hold Lot 1 West

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey and Revel today announced the opening of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) that more than doubles the airport’s available EV chargers. The 24 new chargers were funded and installed by Revel and Con Edison through its PowerReady program for electric vehicle infrastructure incentives helped. The new charging station is located within the airport’s for-hire vehicle (FHV) hold lot and is accessible via the Van Wyck Expressway or Belt Parkway.

The additional chargers help meet growing demand for electric vehicle charging infrastructure at Port Authority facilities, which support the agency’s industry-leading sustainability initiatives. The agency has specified plans to reach its ambitious goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 through its comprehensive net-zero roadmap. That goal encompasses both the agency’s own emissions as well as those originating through the wide transportation ecosystem supporting its facilities. Traditional fast chargers will enable the transition of gas-powered to electric vehicles and contribute towards a reduction of approximately 3,720 metric tons of carbon dioxide each year.

“As we work toward a cleaner, more sustainable future, expanding access to electric vehicle charging infrastructure is a crucial step in reducing emissions,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole. “These fast chargers at JFK are a significant step forward in our broader efforts to support a greener transportation network.”

“The Port Authority and its private partners like Revel are leading the charge in building a net-zero future, and this latest expansion of two dozen more fast chargers at JFK is a major boost in that work,” said Port Authority Executive Director Rick Cotton. “More access to electric vehicle charging equipment helps advance our sustainability goals and reaffirms our agency’s commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.”

With the new Revel charging station at the FHV lot adjacent to JFK Building 141, JFK now hosts a total of 46 EV fast charging ports that are operational at all times, helping to reduce charging wait times and improving traffic flow. Widely available, easily accessible charging infrastructure is crucial in facilitating the shift to electric vehicles. JFK’s 46 EV fast chargers for airport users will benefit both customers and FHV drivers seeking more fast-charging solutions.

In addition to working with the Port Authority at the JFK lot, Revel will install the largest public fast-charging lot near an airport in the nation, with 48 fast charging ports outside LaGuardia Airport to support airport users, FHV drivers and the surrounding community. That lot will be located at 90-10 Ditmars Boulevard in East Elmhurst, Queens, where it is expected to open later this year.

“Reliable fast charging at New York’s airports, where rideshare drivers start and end their most valuable trips, will make or break our city’s electrification mandate,” said Frank Reig, co-founder & CEO of Revel. “We’re proud to partner with the Port Authority to bring the city’s fastest chargers directly to those drivers, first at JFK and later this year at LGA.”

“With these fast chargers and the ones coming to LaGuardia later this year, we’re taking great strides down the path towards a more sustainable and affordable city,” said NYC Taxi & Limousine Commissioner David Do. “Our airports are by far the biggest trip generators for hardworking TLC drivers. By prioritizing development of these charging hubs, the Port Authority and Revel are not only making life easier for thousands of EV drivers who need them right now, but also for the tens of thousands who will be converting to zero-emission vehicles in the coming years.”

“At Kempower, we are committed to accelerating the transition to electric mobility with our reliable and user-friendly DC fast charging solutions,” said Monil Malhotra, president of Kempower Inc., which manufactured the chargers installed by Revel. “We are proud to support the expansion of EV infrastructure at JFK Airport, ensuring that for-hire vehicle drivers and travelers have access to fast, efficient charging whenever they need it.”

“We’re proud that our PowerReady incentive program is enabling the expansion of JFK International Airport’s public fast charging network, helping to make the transition to electric vehicles more accessible for New Yorkers as well as visitors to our dynamic region,” said Raghu Sudhakara, vice president of distributed resource integration at Con Edison. “Additionally, we’re building a new substation complex in eastern Queens that will support the Port Authority’s broader electrification of the airport, helping the state meet its climate goals, as we maintain our nation-leading reliable electric service.”

Con Edison’s PowerReady incentive program supports the expansion of EV charging access by incentivizing buildout of a widespread EV charging network.

In addition to supporting public access of EV charging infrastructure, the Port Authority and its operational partners have collaborated to incorporate more electric vehicles within airport operations as well. Across the agency’s three major airports, 1,400 electric ground service vehicles and 775 electric ground service chargers are currently in use for equipment such as baggage tractors and airplane tows. Beyond EV infrastructure, the Port Authority has undertaken several other ambitious sustainability initiatives at its airports, including New York State’s largest rooftop solar array at JFK’s New Terminal One, the nation’s largest airport solar rooftop at Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A parking garage, a solar array on JFK’s long-term parking Lot 9, and a solar rooftop at LaGuardia Airport. The agency is also committed to electrifying its light duty fleet by 2028 and nearly all of its ground service equipment at airports converted to electric by 2035.
